About Us |
Portland Bible Church was established
in 2005 upon the retirement of Robert B. Thieme, pastor of
Berachah Church in Houston Texas.
Thieme’s 50+ year ministry took the principles of theology advocated by C.I. Scofield and Lewis Sperry Chafer of Dallas Theological Seminary and taught their practical application to the believer’s life. At a time when the Church seemed to be buckling under the challenges of a pagan world, softening the content in favor of "counseling", mentoring, psychology, and human viewpoint, Thieme emphasized Bible teaching from the original languages and the responsibility of the individual believer to heed God’s command to “grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.” II Peter 3:18. Many men were ordained under Berachah's strict "ICE" criteria of teaching: Isagogics (historic and cultural context of a passage), Categorical Studies (comparing a verse with other verses that relate to the same topic), and Exegesis (interpreting a passage from the original Greek and Hebrew). Pastor Gary Glenney was ordained at Berachah and brings this method of teaching to Portland. Portland Bible Church is not a member or affiliate of any other church or organization, including Berachah Church. We are simply a local church dedicated to providing thorough and accurate Bible teaching. |
